Interconnection network ( the Internet ) is a global system of the entire network of computers connected together . Internet comes from the Latin " inter " which means " between " . The Internet is a network that consists of billions of computers in the whole world . Internet involve different types of computers and different network topology . In a set of integration and communication networks , use standard Internet protocols are TCP / IP . TCP duty to ensure that all relationships work well , while the IP assigned to transmit data packets from one computer to the other .

Internet history originally came from ARPA project formed in 1969 by the US Department of Defense . The project was then known as ARPANET ( Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), which conducted research on how to connect one computer to another computer in order to communicate . In 1970 , the project managed to connect more than 10 computers in the form of a network , and a few years later , the results of this research project was developed outside the United States . Because the number of computers connected more and more , then in 1980 was made an official protocol known as TCP / IP ( Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol ) .
